1987 Escort Series Race Car

The 1987 SCCA Escort Endurance Championship had about a dozen teams, fielding over 25 cars in the SS class. Sometimes this seven race endurance series would have up to 20 Corvettes entering each race event. Between Bakeracing’s two Corvettes and the Morrison-Cook’s four Corvettes, at any of these races you could watch six
Mid America-sponsored Corvettes race for the checkered flag.

This SS (Showroom Stock) PRO Racing class ran 4, 6, 12, and 4-24 hour endurance races at Sears Point, Portland, Brainerd, Mosport, Road Atlanta, Mid-Ohio and Sebring tracks.

This was Mid America Corvette Supplies’ (Mid America Motorworks) first venture into SCCA PRO Racing. We partnered with Bakeracing in Corvette #4 and #5.Between Corvette #5 and its running mate #4, six of the seven victories were won by Bakeracing and his yellow Corvettes.

The number 5 Corvette was driven by Mitch Wright and Shawn
Hendricks while number 4 was driven by the brother team of Tommy and Bobby Archer.

The 1987 Escort Endurance Championship also had four Corvettes prepped and raced by Tommy Morrison of Morrison-Cook Racing, which were also sponsored by Mid America Corvette Supplies.

We consider ourselves fortunate to have this piece of racing history in the MY Garage Collection.

¦ The 1985, 1986 and 1987 Championship Winners were Corvettes. Therefore in 1988, the Corvette was classed in a series by itself, The Corvette Challenge.
